Tide Turns On Climate Change Cash Cow

The number of British people who believe that climate change is a figment of the Chancellor's wallet has risen by a staggering 10% in just THREE MONTHS, according to an article published in the Daily Mail.

Twenty-six percent of the population do not subscribe to the idea that climate change is a reality according to a poll by Populus in January, a dramatic rise since a similar poll they staged in November. The swing in public opinion has been attributed partly to the failure of the Copenhagen Climate Summit in December and an admission by the University of East Anglia that scientists had endeavoured to hide true data from sceptics.

The UN's International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was also ridiculed after many of its published facts were found to have been inaccurate guesses plaguerised from a 1999 magazine interview which had been re-hashed in propoganda by the World Wildlife Fund.

In the absence of a representative from the WWF, HotRod Gazette approached a spokesperson for them at Blackpool Zoo, a Gorilla named Geoffery. Geoff told us anything we liked provided we gave him a banana. So, a pretty good representative of anybody in this whole Global Warming farce.....

NSCC AGM - 30th January 2010

The Manhattan Hotel in Blackpool once again opened its doors to the National Street Car Challenge AGM & Awards Ceremony this weekend. Hot topics for this year's debate included whether to introduce slicks or not (the voting went against this idea) and the distance of the cruise for the NSRA Nostalgia Nationals and HotRod Drags.

Picking up special awards this year were Malcolm Glancy, Mark Butterworth, Graham Slaven, John & Janet Payne and Andy Hadfield for his new class record of 8.96 @ 154mph. Andy was obviously bowled over by his award!

Every qualified competitor received a framed certificate of their achievement.

To receive an entry form for the 2010 season simply email Gasket with your details and address.

This year's season will encompass York Raceway, SantaPod, Shakespeare County Raceway and Kirkbride Airfield. Shows will include Wheels Day, NSRA SuperNats, Nostalgia Nats and HotRod Drags, Kyle (Kilmarnock), Steel City, NHRC Cleethorpes and HotRods & Hills in Cumbria. Nick Fitt and Andy Hadfield are also looking at possibly staging a Reliability Run in the Peak District.

Full details to be posted later in the week.

All Conquering Morris Takes NSCC Title

We've always maintained that the National Street Car Challenge is not just about out-and-out race cars badged with a tax disc, and the 2009 season ended with proof of just that. Phil Winstanley, who has always been a keen competitor, drove his 1380cc A-series Morris Minor to victory over some serious V8 competition, with the Championship coming down to the very last meeting to be decided.

Phil's "giant-killer" Minor had only to post a qualifying run at SantaPod, and then to drive across to Shakespeare County Raceway the same day, in order to clinch the title from John Payne in his 5.0 GT Mustang. However, rather than just play it safe, Phil decided to try and better his 13.2 second personal best by upping the nitrous...only to damage the head gasket and limp to the end of the track! This made the drive to Shakespeare (no trailers allowed) really interesting, with the Minor down to 25mph on the motorway at one point!

In the true spirit of the event, Phil limped in through the gates at Shakespeare County under his own steam (actually more steam than he'd have liked) to take the covetted title for 2009. John Payne finished second with his Mustang and Dave Smith thired with his ElCamino.
